Abdulmajeed Muslot
Sana’a, Yemen
Chocolatey, earthy, and complex — a coffee from one of the world’s most storied and secretive growing regions.
Around 500 years ago, coffee seedlings are believed to have been smuggled from Ethiopia into Yemen, where they were cultivated on closely guarded mountain terraces hidden from the outside world. Yemeni coffee cultivation and trade remain distinct to this day — and this lot comes from a rare direct connection: Abdulmajeed Muslot, a coffee trader we’ve sourced from since 2017 across Yemen’s Harazi and Sanani growing regions west of Sana’a.
This regional blend hails from the rugged, terraced landscape of Sanani, where small-scale farmers grow the coffee before it’s centrally collected, dried, and pre-sorted. It then travels to Al-Hudaydah, where Abdulmajeed’s team handles final sorting and grading, before shipping out from the port of Aden. The unusually long journey and traditional processing methods — so different from the short, efficient supply chains found elsewhere — are part of what gives Yemeni coffee its singular character.
